Patmos is located between Leros and Ikeria. The island features beautiful white cube-shaped houses spilling down the sides of a hill. No one can describe the earth’s spirit on this island. The water revives you and the sun makes you feel unique. You will admire and enjoy its beauty and serenity.

Skala is the main port and settlement in Patmos and features whitewashed houses and flowered courtyards. Many ferries and cruise ships arrive at Skala port throughout the year. Transportation is very easy to the other islands from Skala.

Patmos has a very spiritual atmosphere because of its religious background. The island is a very popular destination for Christian pilgrimage, as the cave where St.John received his Revelation and several monasteries dedicated to St.John are found here. St.John wrote the Apocalypse in a small cave. This cave can be visited today as well as the Monastery of St. John. The monastery stands on a hill above Chora which is the capital of Patmos island.

The Monastery of St. John, The Monastery of Apocalypse, and the Chapel of St Anne are the main tourist attractions of Patmos. The Monastery of St.John is a long walk uphill from the harbor of Skala and there are some steep steps at the entrance. The small church has beautiful wall paintings and spectacular iconostasis. The museum is a site to behold with a wonderful mixture of relics and icons. The Monastery of Apocalypse is fascinating with all of its staircases and passageways. The view of the harbor from the monastery is unforgettable. The Chapel of St. Anne was built around the cave.

The most popular beaches are Agriolivado and Kampos Geraniou. You can also discover lots of coves around the island. Many religious music festivals are organized in summer and attract many visitors.

Patmos is a symbol of faith and communication with God, it’s today a pole of attraction for monks from all over the world.
